Onto our first demo in the new Windows and Mac hybrid. We are going to be talking about fonts. Steve will be sharing a handy tool to use that will allow you to identify the name of a font you see online, a free resource for downloading fonts, and how to install fonts on both a Mac and Windows environment.
How to Identify a Font Online
Have you ever been on a web page and really liked a font you come across and wondered what font it is? There’s a tool for that! WhatFont, the easiest way to determine fonts on web pages. It is available in Chrome as a browser extension. Once the extension is installed you will see it located in your browser bar in the upper right-hand side. With a toggle like function, when you are on a site and want to identify a font, you will click on the icon in your browser bar to activate WhatFont. You will know you have turned WhatFont on when you see the “Exit WhatFont” option. Now that you have it turned on and ready and start moving your cursor over the page, any text that you hover over, the name of the font will be displayed. Yes, it really is that easy. Warning: WhatFont works on many sites but does not seem to work on every site we tested it on.How to Download Free Fonts
Why would you want to discover the name of a font if you can’t use it? There is a tool for that too! Font Squirrel. Tell Font Squirrel which font you are looking for and it will search the internet for free, high-quality fonts available, many times it will return the exact font you are searching for. Click on the font you choose and you will have the option to “Download TTF”, TTF simply stands for the file type used for fonts. Click on “Download TTF” to save the file to your computer. How to Install a New Font
